During my family’s most recent trip to Europe, we stayed at the JW Marriott Resort & Spa for 3 nights in Venice, Italy. As this was the last stop of our European Adventure, we chose not to stay on the Venice mainland as we were seeking tranquil accommodations and it was important for us to have a pool for the kids. After 2 1/2 weeks of non-stop touring, we wanted to enjoy the city of Venice as well as have some downtime before we headed back to Toronto and this resort offered both. This luxurious 5-star property which is located about a 20-minute water taxi ride from St. Mark’s square is an island onto itself.
The island, Isola Delle Rose originally housed a hospital for those with pulmonary disorders so patients could leave the congestion and humidity of Venice for the 16 hectares of lush greenery and breezy salt air. It is because of the expansive grounds that it was so peaceful and a perfect refuge from the bustling streets of Venice – a perfect paradise oasis.
My first impression of JW Marriott Resort was beyond anything I have ever experienced. From the moment our water taxi approached the magnificent entrance of the hotel and sailed directly into the landing area (yes, the water taxi actually goes INTO the hotel) we felt immediately welcomed by the staff who greeted us with “Buongiorno Mr & Mrs. Power.” (I’m still wondering how they knew it was us.)
From there, things just kept getting better. Check-in was a breeze, the staff were attentive and the service was personalized. As we arrived earlier than expected our room wasn’t quite ready yet so we were provided with a courtesy room to change and enjoy the resort. We spent some time grabbing a bite (there was delicious food everywhere) and enjoying the wonderful pool. When our room was ready, our bags were quickly transferred over and the concierge showed us to our new accommodation, a La Maisoneette Loft Suite. Click HERE for an inside peek of our accommodations.
This 592 square foot, 2 storey loft offered a large patio, living room area, 2 bathrooms, and a 2nd-floor master suite with a king bed. This suite was beyond spacious and spectacular. Maybe it was because we had just spent a week in a cruise ship cabin that it felt that much more fantastic – I’m not sure – but we enjoyed every square inch of the place.
The resort was super kid-friendly and offered multiple pools & restaurants, a cooking academy (did you read my post about that?), a kids club, a full fitness center and the largest spa in Venice. The rooftop deck offered a 360-degree view over the city & the lagoon and the grounds were expansive, peaceful and full of olive groves. Perfect for a nature walk or a bicycle ride.
We enjoyed breakfast every morning at Cucina which offered everything you could ask in a buffet. In the evening we enjoyed a delightful dinner on the rooftop restaurant overlooking Venice, Sagra. The resort also has a Michelin star-rated restaurant that specializes in Veneto-inspired cooking however time was limited and we did not get a chance to indulge. We had to save something for next time!
For my family, this resort was a highlight of our trip and a great, relaxing way to end our Europe Adventure. The JW Marriott Venice is definitely a resort that we wish to return to one day and hopefully send you there too!
