As I sit here flying home from my most recent stay in Mexico at the El Dorado Casitas Royale, with the love of my life sitting next to me, the One Republic song “It’s a Good Life” keeps playing in my head. I have always loved this song, way back when it was released as it always hit an emotion deep down inside of me. A feeling of gratitude, an overwhelming feeling of how lucky I am to have all of the blessings that I have in my life. As the song says:
“I have so much to feel good about.”
Hubby and I have spent the last 3 days frolicking at the Adults Only El Dorado Casitas Royale in the Riviera Maya. This resort is operated by Karisma hotels and it is a “true” 5-star property and has been awarded four diamonds by AAA. I can not tell you the feeling of luxury that we experienced from the moment we arrived to the moment we left; we were treated like we have never experienced before.
Upon arrival at 11 am we were whisked off by a private golf cart from the main lobby to the El Dorado Casitas Royale check-in just a few minutes away. Upon arrival, we were treated with cold, aromatherapy-infused wash clothes and a mimosa by our personal concierge, Mariano.
Knowing we were arriving earlier than the regular 3 pm check-in, our special request for an early check-in was pleasantly accommodated, and not only was it ready but we were also being upgraded. We both exclaimed, “To what?” as we had already booked one of the highest room categories available, a Swim Up Casita Suite. We were upgraded to an Individual Casita Suite with Swim Up. The luxuries of this room were beyond spectacular from the pillow menu options to selecting which aromatherapy scent we would like to have our room infused with each evening.
Karisma resorts understand that luxury is not just experienced by the visually appealing, but by all the senses, especially touch, smell and taste (I will get to that one shortly).

Time to select our pillow!
Our room at El Dorado Casitas Royal had everything you could possibly imagine…a king-sized bed, a jacuzzi tub, double sinks, an indoor and outdoor shower, a large terrace that stepped out to our own lazy river. WOW was all that I could muster up. (Click HERE for room video). But those amenities were not the best of what our room had to offer. The beach and the ocean were a mere 25 steps from our back door. Try taking 25 steps and notice how close that actually is. Our room was so close to the beach that if we had to use the washroom the closest facilities were actually in our room!!
25 steps from our room we had a private Bali bed that overlooked the ocean. It came with a beach butler who would regularly check in on us to make sure that we had everything we required for our stay. My signature Strawberry Mojitos ready even before I had a chance to request it.
El Dorado Casitas Royale offers 24-hour room service and we took full advantage of this luxury. Ordering breakfast and eating on our private patio every morning – freshly squeezed orange juice, steaming coffee, our vacation staple of eggs benedict, an assortment of fruits, berries, cheeses and pastries that we deliciously devoured. Mid after snacks of fresh guacamole and chips were delivered and taken to our Bali bed and enjoyed while soaking up the sun and the ocean breeze. We also pre-ordered a picnic lunch to be brought out directly to the beach which included salads, wraps and sandwiches.
Karisma Resorts are known for their gourmet food choices and promise each meal to be a culinary experience and they absolutely delivered. Every meal that we had was beyond spectacular. Within 3 days we had the opportunity to experience an authentic Mexican at Rincon Mexicano, Asian at Kampai, Italian at D’Italia and a special experience at the Wine Kitchen Restaurant and Tasting Room at Generations Spa Resort just next door.
The grounds of the resort were tropical and expansive but each block of Casitas provided a small private enclave. With only 16 to 30 rooms in each block, each having its own pool and swim-up bar, there were many opportunities to relax and enjoy without feeling overwhelmed by other guests. The resort provides a great experience for those looking for a chance to enjoy and connect.
To say that we loved every moment of it would be an understatement. To feel so pampered was perfectly spectacular. El Dorado Resorts by Karisma provides an unsurpassed experience for those looking for an adults-only retreat. From start to finish we loved every minute of it and are already counting down the days to when we can return again.

We went to the Royale in May. Loved it!! Only thing was our travel agent sucked! Did not tell us to check in with our concierge and it was our 30th anniversary, we kept stressing to her about that and she did nothing’. We want to go back again! The resort makes Sandals Resort look bad. Might try you next time.

Resort was paradise, variety of restaurants with excellent food and service. Many beautiful swimming pools with swim up bars and miles of beach where you can find solitude but still get drinks delivered without leaving beach chairs.
There are extensive activities that you can sign up for but we decided to stay on beach and pool to work on our tans.
Two suggestions: get up early to see sunrises which are beautiful, and make dinner reservation early especially if you like to dine late.
Absolutely love
